Information

This is where we get down to the nitty gritty to help you prepare for your photographic experience. Newborn photography is different to other kinds of photography so, even if you’ve had professional portraits taken before, there are a few key things you should know. With these in mind, we’ll achieve the best possible outcome from your newborn session.

What is the best age to photograph a newborn?

Age plays an important role in the look and feel of your newborn images. Babies change at a phenomenal rate in the early days! To achieve the curled-up positions you see on my website, it’s best to hold your session during the first two weeks after birth. Most babies at this age are still sleepy, making it easier to curl them into those positions we all love. After two weeks, your baby becomes more wakeful. Some babies develop baby ‘acne’ or peeling skin. Older babies also like to stretch out, making it difficult to get that curled-up newborn look. [Keep scrolling]

Where are newborn sessions held?

All sessions are held in my fully equipped studio space, located at my home in Oak Flats Wollongong. My studio is warm, safe and comfortable for you and your precious new arrival.

How long does a newborn session take?

Most sessions last two to three hours. We’ll allow time for feeds, cuddles, and nappy changes. Closer to the date of your session, we’ll discuss what you need to bring.

What about maternity sessions?

Maternity sessions are best held around 32–36 weeks into your pregnancy, when you’re at your most glowing. Sessions can either be held at one of my favourite locations (I have a secret stash) or at my studio. It really depends what ‘look’ you’re after for your maternity photos.

When should I book my newborn session?

By now I bet you’re as excited about your session as I am, and you’re probably dying to make a booking. It’s critical that you contact me while you are STILL PREGNANT so I can pencil in a date. Once you’re home from hospital, we can set a firm date. There are many weeks where I am fully booked, so if you wait until your baby is born before contacting me, it might not be possible to hold your session during those crucial first 10 days. So contact me today to discuss your due date and book your newborn session.
